About Clarice

Hello! I’m so happy that you’re here!

My name is Clarice Dankers, and I am a lifelong learner…writer…teacher. A lover of words, stories and songs. An international traveler who is passionate about learning about other people and cultures. A wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Similar to your experience, I imagine, the years of my life have passed much too quickly. I grew up on a ranch in Three Forks, Montana, and raised my two daughters mainly in Portland, Oregon.

And then in 2014 — at an age (63) when things are generally fairly well settled — a long-time client offered me a job in Vienna, Austria, and I accepted! As a result, my life  transformed. Not only was I happier in Vienna than I had ever been, but I also met my future husband, Gerhard, there in 2016.

One of the things that drew us together was a mutual love of Ireland and Celtic music. I first discovered this love on a songwriting retreat I attended in Glencolmcille, Donegal, in October 2015. Gerhard discovered it on a holiday he took in 2016. Together we spent holidays on the west coast in 2017 and 2018. In October 2018 we decided to contact a realtor and soon found the perfect home for us on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry.

Late in December 2019, we said goodbye to our friends and family and headed out in our car to drive across Germany and France. At Cherbourg, we got on a ferry that should have taken 17 hours to arrive at Rosslare Harbour, but actually took 25 due to stormy, rainy and wind-tossed seas. After a 5-hour drive across Ireland, we finally arrived at our new home.

It was December 24th — the best Christmas present we could have given ourselves!
